Why We Must Unite Against Trump’s New Threat to the Constitution

As Donald Trump prepares to take office again, a new and unparalleled threat to our democracy looms over the United States. This is not a moment for despair, nor for resignationβ€”it is a call to action. The fight to preserve our constitutional republic has only just begun, and this time, we must unite against a threat that transcends partisan politics.

For years, people have labeled Trump a fascist. He has been compared to authoritarian leaders in history. Yet this rhetoric missed the unique threat he poses. What we face now goes beyond partisan battles. It is a direct assault on the foundations of our democracy. This isn’t just about Trump. It’s about a Congress that refuses to hold him accountable and an executive branch ready to seize unprecedented power.

Congress is Useless to Us Now

The legislative branch, the body entrusted by the Constitution to act as a check on the executive, has failed us. Both Republicans and Democrats have either actively shielded Trump or stood by as he eroded the norms and principles that safeguard our democracy. Instead of engaging in genuine oversight or accountability, Congress has been complicit in allowing Trump’s agenda to proceed unchecked.

Congress certified his electoral college votes despite legitimate concerns about the integrity of our electoral process. This shows they chose political expediency over constitutional duty. Politicians and media labeled efforts to investigate January 6, 2021, and audit the election as β€œelection denial.” This demonization silenced millions of Americans who demanded transparency and accountability. This Congress will not impeach Trump, nor will it meaningfully resist his unconstitutional overreach. It is a body that has rendered itself obsolete.

Defending Our Constitution

Trump’s second administration threatens to upend not just our political norms but the very principles of constitutional governance. Trump manipulates finances, partners with Elon Musk on DOGEcoin, and consolidates media and monetary power. He is building an oligarchy that threatens the U.S. dollar and, in turn, the freedoms of every American.

Trump undermines the legitimacy of the USD and promotes an alternative financial ecosystem that serves his personal interests, creating a system where only those who buy into his economic empire can access governance. This isn’t just bad policyβ€”it directly attacks the rights and freedoms guaranteed to every American by the Constitution. Trump has proposed meaningless cabinet confirmations. He will likely rely on recess appointments. This will only serve to centralize power. He positions himself not as a president but as the most centralized dictator in modern history. This isn’t governance; it’s a power grab that undermines the checks and balances at the core of our democracy.

Using Citizens United to Turn Trump’s Plans on Their Head

While many have fought to overturn Citizens United and β€œget money out of politics,” this landmark decision may now be the key to exposing the unconstitutionality of Trump’s agenda. Under Citizens United, money has been equated with speechβ€”a precedent that has shaped political discourse and campaign financing for over a decade.

Trump’s manipulation of financial systems, particularly his promotion of DOGEcoin, takes this precedent to dangerous extremes. Trump attempts to create a two-tiered economic system where only those using his favored currency, DOGE, can access governance, essentially favoring one form of speech (DOGE) over another (USD). This is no different than favoring certain kinds of political speech over others, which directly violates the First Amendment’s principle of an equal playing field for all voices.

Rather than fighting Citizens United outright, we can use it to challenge Trump’s plans. If money is speech, then Trump’s attempts to devalue the USD and elevate DOGE as a competing β€œcurrency of governance” are unconstitutional. By favoring one form of financial speech over another, Trump is undermining the competitive landscape that ensures all Americans, regardless of their economic means or currency preference, have an equal opportunity to be heard.

This argument can be taken further: If money equals speech, then manipulating the value of money (as Trump has openly discussed doing to β€œcompete with China”) is akin to suppressing speech. His actions effectively devalue the speech of every American who relies on the USD, diminishing their ability to participate in the economy and political discourse on equal footing. This is not just financial malpracticeβ€”it is a direct violation of constitutional principles.

The Final Check & Balance: Supreme Court (Judicial Branch)

If Congress will not act, we must turn to the Supreme Court. This moment demands an unprecedented form of litigation, one that challenges the legitimacy of both the legislative and executive branches for their collective failure to uphold the Constitution. It is a bold and necessary step to ensure that our government remains accountable to the people it serves.

We propose a mass impeachment effortβ€”not just of Trump but of the entire Congress. Through a citizen-led effort, we must argue before the Supreme Court that both branches of government have failed to fulfill their constitutional duties and have actively participated in undermining the rights of every American.

This litigation must focus on how their actionsβ€”or inactionβ€”have degraded our rights, our capital, and our freedoms. This is not about partisan grievances; it is about protecting the Constitution from those who have chosen to ignore it.

Unprecedented Threats Require Novel Solutions

This is not just a fight for todayβ€”it is a fight for the future of democracy in America. Trump and his enablers believe they are getting away with dismantling our democratic institutions, but we cannot allow that. This is a fight for all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, because the freedoms being eroded affect us all.

We must unite, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as citizens committed to the principles of democracy and constitutional governance. Together, we can build a new movement to hold our leaders accountable, restore faith in our institutions, and ensure that the Constitution remains the bedrock of our republic.

The fight is just starting. It is time to act.

Join us in defending democracy. The future of the nation depends on it.
